Revision Notes (Ah Bah's money)

1. Relationship between Ah Bah and his mother:
-They appear to be close.
-There are instances when his mother is nice.
-When she comes back from Ah Lam Soh's house, he is given fifty cents.
-To make his father believe he had lost the money, Ah Bah pretended to go home crying that a rough-looking Indian man had robbed him.
-His mother pities him and consoles him.
-She gives him fifty cents and help clean up the bruise created by his father.
-Ah Bah is deeply moved.
-He tells his mother that he has hidden the money in the old hen-house and leads her there.
-However, at the end, his mother betray him by stealing his money so that she can gamble.

2. Suggest feelings about Ah Bah, his father and his mother:
-I feel that Ah Bah is very obsessed about his money as the sight of it gave him so much pleasure. He likes to count his money all the time and that is a sign that he is obsessed with money. However, he is also rather pitiful as at the end of the story, he has been abused by his father before and all his money has been taken away. Based on there facts, I feel sorry for him.

-In my opinion, I find that Ah Bah's father is a good-for-nothing as he drinks beer every night and he abuses his family members by shouting at them. Once, he even threw an empty beer bottle at Ah Bah's mother and it nearly hit her. As such, I despise him for his unruly and boisterous behavior.

-I feel that Ah Bah's mother is a wolf in sheep's clothing. At first, she appears to be patient and kind. She appears to show Ah Bah that she loves him by cleaning his wounds for instance. However, at the end of the story, she is actually a hypocrite as she actually took all of Ah Bah's money without his knowing. As such, I feel contempt for her.

3. Ah Bah's attitude towards money:
-He is obsessive as he is extremly excited by the thought of his money but at the same time frightened and anxious that he might lose it. Therefore, once vice he has demonstrated is his greed with regard to money.

4. Personal thoughts/Reflection:
-This story shows how a boy becomes entangled with money at a tender age. It is perhaps typical of how some Asian families can be like. The story tells us indirectly that it is totally unwise to be completely preoccupied with money as money is something that can be taken away instantaneously. As some of there things include, love, kinship, filial piety and honesty. There are some of the important in the recipe of life.

Revision Notes (Trouble in the supermarket)

1. How the Word Witch was offended:
-When the withc said that she wanted peanut butter, Mr Delmonico said," You'd had butter not." He was making fun of her and yet she kept her cool.
-Then, she said that she wanted a load of wholemeal bread and he questioned how she could make a meal out of a hole. Again, she ignored him.
-Next, she said that she wanted some beans. He replied saying that the beans looked like 'might-have-beans'.
-At this juncture, she glared at him and said that she had had quite enough of him and cast the curse of the whirling words on him.

2. Trouble created by the Curse of the Whirling Words:
-Mr Delmonico said the word 'jam' and then suddenly, all of them were up to their ankles in several different types of jam.
-Later, the manager said 'fishy'. A large flapping fish appeared suddenly and struck him on the right ear.
-Mr Delmonico said the word 'ring' and an elephant gold ring with an enormous diamond in it appeared in his hand.
-Then, Mr Delmonico said the word 'egging' and eggs began to fall out of the air. A few hit the manager and most of them broke on Mr Delmonico.
-Subsequently, the manager said that Mr Delmonico had no leg to stand on and Mr Delmonico sat down suddenly in the jam.
-Francis mentioned the word 'balloon' and he found Sarah and himself rising out of a jam in a beautiful air balloon.
-At last, when Mr Delmonico said the phrase 'down-to-earth fellow', his collar and trouser belt gave way and he fell to earth into his own garden.

3. Thoughts at the end of the story:
This is a fantasy about how a man's words get him and his children into all kinds of trouble. As such, the moral of the story, is that we should always watch what we say since we never know when we might unwittingly offend people around us. When we have nothing good to say, it is sometimes best not to say anything at all as empty vessels make the most noise.

Good Luck! :))))
